Lot 4488
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.06 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Lugdunum, irregular mint, after 321. COИSTAИTIИVS P I AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. BEATA TRAИQVILLITAS / C - R / PLG Globe set on altar inscribed VO/TIS / XX; above, two stars. Cf. RIC 126 (for prototype). Minor traces of corrosion on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation, copying RIC 126 (Lugdunum). Some of the lettering is irregular and each N is retrograde. In addition, the central star above the altar is missing.
